PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at the Brown University Volleyball Tournament, defeating La Salle, 3-2, after falling to Princeton, 3-1.

The split puts JU 3-4 on the season as the Dolphins became the first team to defeat La Salle (9-1) in 10 tries during the 2000 season.

Freshman Radka Dimitrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led four Dolphins with double-digit kill totals with 12 in the win over La Salle. Senior Jessica Windell (Newport, Ore.) had 11 while junior Carrie Bosworth (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore Brooke Ahrens (Benson, Ill.) each had 10. Bosworth paced the club with 34 assists while senior Tiffany Twaddle (Dallas, Texas) led the way with nine digs.

La Salle won the first game 15-8, but JU did not back down and picked up game two with an identical 15-8 score. JU faced elimination in game four, as La Salle took a 2-1 lead with a 15-8 game three victory, but the Dolphins would roll to a convincing 15-1 win in game four before using the momentum to win the fifth and deciding game 15-13.

Earlier in the day, JU droped a 3-1 contest to Princeton, 15-7, 15-4, 8-15, 15-6. Senior Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) each had a match-high 15 kills, but it was not enough as the Dolphins lost their opening match at the Brown tourney. Windell led the team with 12 digs while Bosworth had 11 to go with Ryals' 10. Bosworth led the team with 48 assists and four blocks (three solo).

The Dolphins return to action as they continue tournament action on Saturday when they take on St. Peter's at 3 p.m. and host Brown University at 7:30 p.m. JU's next home match is on Sept. 23 at 2:30 p.m. when they play host to Coastal Carolina in Swisher Gymnasium.
