Volleyball To Take on UCF In Non-Conference Matchup

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University volleyball team will look to remain undefeated in the friendly confines of Swisher Gymnasium when the Dolphins play host to UCF Friday night in non-conference action.

JU enters the contest 10-5 on the year, including wins in eight of the Dolphins' last nine matches. The squad has played well at home, sporting an unblemished 4-0 mark with victories over Bethune-Cookman, Coastal Carolina, Stetson and Florida Atlantic.

Six JU players have 100-plus kill totals on the year, including team-leader Brooke Jackson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) who paces the club with 166. Freshman Kelly Ryals (Gainesville, Fla.) leads the team defensively with 152 digs. As a team, JU is hitting .247 (903 kills, 344 errors, 2,259 attempts) while holding opponents to a .181 clip (794 kills, 372 errors, 2,333 attempts).

UCF, meanwhile, comes into the match with a 10-8 overall mark. The Knights have struggled somewhat on the road, though, and have a 3-7 mark when playing outside of Orlando. Leyre Santaella Sante leads the team with 245 kills while Piper Morgan is not far behind with 210. Jenny Frank leads the UCF defense with 195 digs. As a team, UCF has a .231 attack percentage (964 kills, 383 errors, 2,511 attempts) while allowing opponents to hit .197 (910 kills, 420 errors, 2,487 attempts).

Even though JU and UCF are both members of the Trans America Athletic Conference, Friday's match will not count in the conference standings. The two teams will square off in conference action on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Orlando, Fla.

The match against UCF will the first of a four-match homestand for JU. The Dolphins will take on non-TAAC foe Morris Brown on Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning to conference action with a 7:30 p.m. match against Campbell on Oct. 20 and a 7:30 p.m. contest against Georgia State on Oct. 21.
