Izquierdo, Kannapel Earn National Honors

Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville safety Julio Izquierdo and quarterback Greg Kannapel were named National I-AA Independent Players of the Week for their play in the Dolphins' 48-41 double overtime win over Greensboro College.
Izquierdo, a senior from Hialeah, FL (Hialeah H.S.), is the National Defensive Player of the Week. He led the Dolphins with a season high 18 tackles, 11 unassisted. He also had an interception in the JU victory and also is now the team leader with 46 tackles.
Kannapel, a freshman from Louisville, KY (Waggenor H.S.) is the National Rookie of the Week. Taking his first collegiate snaps, Kannapel led JU on scoring drives on its first two possessions. For the day, the true freshman was 14 of 30 passing for 304 yards and 4 touchdowns. His scoring tosses came from 33 yards to Brett Palmi and 25 yards to Jon Underhill. Kannapel also connected with Corey Donnell on throws of 63 and 9 yards.
This was the second game in which JU has won in double overtime. The Dolphins also defeated Austin Peay, 28-21, in double overtime on October 2.
