Duncan Stewart Shoots 74 on Final Day of NCAA Men's Golf East Regional

KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. - Sophomore Duncan Stewart (Moray Shire, Scotland) shot a three-over 74 to tie for 48th at the NCAA Men's Golf East Regional Championship at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn. Stewart, the 2005 Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year, carded a three-round total of 216 at the par-71, 6,864 yard course to close out his season. Stewart, opening on the back nine, knocked in three straight pars before running into trouble on the 13th, where he bogeyed to fall to one over. He was up and down at the turn, getting birdies on No. 15 and 17 while knocking in bogeys on the 16th and 18th holes. Stewart got back to even on his 10th hole of the day before a bogey at three and a double bogey at four dropped him to three over. He finished out the round with five straight pars. Stewart finished in a tie for third with Mississippi State's Joe Deraney among the six individuals selected for the East Regional field. Coastal Carolina's Dustin Johnson took home medalist honors after firing a seven-under 64 on the final day to finish at 15 under. Rhys Davies of East Tennessee State, the leader after two rounds, finished second with a 14 under 199. Wake Forest took home the team championship, shooting a 17-under 835 over three days to down Tennessee by two strokes. Other teams advancing into the NCAA Men's Golf Championship field includes Georgia, Florida, A-Sun champion Georgia State, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Coastal Carolina, Duke and Georgia Southern. Davies and North Carolina's Martin Ureta will advance as individuals into the national field. |
