Dolphins Earn #5 Seed in ASUN Tournament

ESTERO, Fla. – Jacksonville University beach volleyball earned the #5 seed in the upcoming ASUN Conference Tournament as the Dolphins fell in the regular season finale, 5-0, to both Florida Gulf Coast and No. 17 Stetson, Saturday afternoon at Estero Community Park.

Match One – at (RV) Florida Gulf Coast

Jacksonville (5-16, 3-7 ASUN) forced three individual matches to extra sets as the 1s, 3s, and 4s pressured the Eagles (13-9, 7-3 ASUN). Sophomore Morgan Dees and junior Katie Krawczyk bounced back with a 21-17 win in set two after dropping the first, 21-15. The No. 1 pair then fell in the tie breaker, 15-7.

In the No. 3 position, all three sets were decided by just two points as senior Mackenzie Swan and freshman Shaylee Befus answered a 22-20 first-set loss with their own 22-20 win in the second, before they narrowly missed in the third, 15-13.

The 4s pair of freshman Savannah Siegrist and senior Shelby Babowicz took their first set, 21-19, before FGCU won the second and third sets, 21-0, 15-11, for the win.

Match Two – vs. No. 17 Stetson

Refusing to go down without a fight, the 1s and 4s pairings again forced extra sets as Dees and Krawczyk evened their match up with a 21-19 win to balance out the Hatters' 21-17 win in the first, before Stetson took the match, 15-12.

Extra points were needed in the second set as Siegrist and Babowicz bounced back from a 21-17 deficit in game one with a 23-21 win to send their match to a third, but the Dolphin duo ultimately fell to the Hatters, 15-10.

With the #5 seed in the upcoming ASUN Tournament, the Dolphins will face #4 seed Mercer at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts on the campus of Stetson University on Saturday April 21. A time is yet to be determined.
