JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University baseball announced its 2019 schedule on Wednesday. The slate features eight straight home games at John Sessions Stadium to open the season and 11 contests against NCAA Regional participants last year.
"We are looking forward to the challenges that the 2019 schedule presents," said Head Coach Chris Hayes. "We will be tested early and often against the best teams in the country.
"With 25 games against teams from Florida and 28 road games, we will be prepared and ready for the postseason come late May and June."
Indiana State of the Missouri Valley Conference comes to town to open the 2019 campaign Feb. 15-17. Defending ACC champions Florida State make its yearly journey east on I-10 on Feb. 19, for legendary coach Mike Martin's last visit to Sessions Stadium, a yearly tradition since 1993. Jacksonville State then rolls into Jacksonville for a weekend series, followed by College World Series participant Florida for the first time in two years.
JU won five games against nationally-ranked opponents last year, and will have another opportunity to make a statement this season. Opponents from the ACC, SEC and AAC dot the midweek portion of the schedule, and non-conference weekend road trips to UCF, UNC Greensboro and Austin Peay should once against position the club to supplement its RPI with wins.
Defending ASUN Conference champions Stetson visit John Sessions Stadium for a highly anticipated series in mid-May. Lipscomb and new ASUN members North Alabama and Liberty also visit the friendly confines, where the Dolphins racked up 22 wins last year, its best total since 2006.
JU heads to NJIT, Florida Gulf Coast, Kennesaw State and across town to North Florida for road conference series this season.
The Dolphins are coming off its first 40-win season since 2006, its first NCAA Regional appearance since 2011 and 15th in program history. JU earned a 2-seed in the Gainesville Regional, the highest in school history, after a second-place finish in the ASUN Conference.
