For the fourth consecutive week, a JU football player has been honored by the Pioneer Football League.
DJ Howard (Daytona Beach, Fla.) has been named co-Defensive Player of the Week after his career-best performance in Saturday's 29-14 win over Drake.
Howard, a junior linebacker, recorded a team leading, career-high 12 tackles to help the Dolphins remain unbeaten in PFL play. His total also included two tackles for loss, a sack and two pass breakups. Howard's sack came on a key fourth down play that ended Drake's final possession on downs.
In just his second start of the year, Howard now is second on the team in tackles with 28 including 13 solo stops. Linebacker Grady Redding (Cocoa, Fla.) leads the team with 39 tackles.
Howard joins quarterback Kade Bell (Fleming Island, Fla.), running back Ulysses Bryant (Jacksonville, Fla.) and punter Ryan Giaratano (Coral Springs, Fla.) as PFL Player of the Week honorees this season.
