"We know Edward Waters is hungry coming off two close loses, and they are talented. They can run and hit, and are going to come over here with a chip on their shoulder. We want to protect our home turf. It's going to be a fun atmosphere at night and should make for a great evening for our student body and fans." - Head Coach Ian Shields
"We are coming off a loss and have something to prove. We have a focused mindset and want to handle business Saturday." - Junior Brian Burnett

Saturday marks the third meeting in this series and second consecutive year the teams have met ... Jacksonville has won both times including a 49-28 victory last year in the Jacksonville Classic ... running back Ulysses Bryant posted career-bests of seven receptions for 119 yards and two touchdowns against the Tigers in 2015 ... the teams first met in 2002 when JU prevailed, 44-31.
"Spread, not Triple"
Jacksonville's offense should be referred to as the "spread option", not the "triple option." The triple option is just one play that can be run out of the spread option.
Jacksonville University rushed for 173 yards, running back Ulysses Bryant totaled 115 yards of total offense, but Jacksonville fell to Liberty 55-7 Saturday night at Williams Stadium. The Dolphins scored their lone touchdown of the night on a Pernell Rattray 20-yard rush off a pitch from quarterback Rylan Wells. The scoring play capped a successful 10-play, 79-yard drive that took up 5:20 off the clock.
Wells finished the game 11-19 with 126 yards with two interceptions. Prince Gray led all Dolphin receivers with four receptions for 59 yards. He was one of four Dolphins with a catch. Bryant hauled in three passes for 40 yards. Bryant was the leading rusher with 13 carries for 75 yards.
O Captain! My Captain!
Head Coach Ian Shields has announced that redshirt-senior outside linebacker Justin Horton, senior A-back Ulysses Bryant, and redshirt-junior Rylan Wells have been voted by their peers as permanent team captains.
The other captain's slot will be on a rotating weekly basis as chosen by Coach Shields. Taylor McCullers takes the honor vs. EWC.
Behind Enemy Lines
Edward Waters has lost two close games to Morehouse (19-13) and Livingstone (31-28) to begin its 2016 schedule. The Tigers are led by quarterback Tyler Mahla, who has rushed for 144 yards and passed for 145 with two touchdowns. Jerrod Thomas also takes snaps behind center and has thrown for 272 yards and two touchdowns. Cornerback Shaquille Stoudemire leads the defense with 17 tackles and two tackles-for-a-loss.
