"It's hard to go on the road and win a football game, and we were fortunate enough to do that last week. Looking at their (Davidson's) defense, I'm pretty impressed with their personnel, frankly. They have some guys up front leading the conference in sacks, tackles-for-a-loss, four-year starters, and captains. On both sides of the football, they are so diverse and multiple."– Head Coach Ian Shields

"You never really know what they (the defense) are going to do. We don't have film on them against an offense like ours. We prepare for multiple, different defenses, and after the first drive we'll talk and be good to go."– Redshirt-Junior Quarterback Rylan Wells

Career vs. Davidson

Career Days In Kentucky

  • Last week's game at Morehead State was a career day for numerous Dolphins
  • Grady Redding had his first pick-six, Prince Gray took his first and longest punt return to the house, marking the first time JU has scored twice in a game on non-offensive touchdowns since 10/22/11 in the same combination. A Lacy McDougald pick-six and D'Andre Randle punt return led to a dominating 56-13 home win vs. Davidson
  • Jared Morris (93 yards), Jake Brito (88 yards), and Pernell Rattray (74 yards) set career-bests in rushing against the Eagles
  • KJ Jenkins (eight tackles) Austin Yeloushan (four tackles) and Griffin Garland (four tackles) set personal bests in stops
  • Brian Burnett's five receptions matched his career-best

A record-tying rushing attack and three second half turnovers by the Jacksonville University defense lifted the Dolphins to a wild, 61-49 victory against Morehead State Saturday at Jayne Stadium.

Jacksonville tied its program-record with 433 rushing yards, and the 61 points were tied for the fourth-most in Dolphin history. Jared Morris led JU with career-bests in 19 carries for 93 yards and a score. Rylan Wells was 13-21 with 165 yards and two touchdowns, and Prince Gray caught five passes for a score and had a 70-yard punt return for a score. Grady Redding led the Dolphins with 10 tackles and scored on an interception.

Behind Enemy Lines

The Wildcats are riding a five-game losing skid with some tough luck. Davidson has lost a pair of Pioneer Football League games by four points, and in its last home outing, saw a field goal at the horn sink a 20-17 setback to Butler. Marist, the Wildcats' most recent opponent, held Davidson to just 101 yards passing in a 31-10 Red Foxes' win last week. Davidson quarterback Stockton McGuire directs the offense, having thrown for seven touchdowns and averaging 135.8 passing yards-per-game, as well as accumulating 307 rushing yards on 61 carries. Jaylen Mize leads the defense with 41 total tackles and three interceptions.

Up Next

Jacksonville returns home for a Nov. 5 matchup with Drake and will be celebrating "Coming Home: A Celebration of Strength on the First Coast." The Bulldogs sit at 3-4 and 2-2 in the PFL and have a home date with Campbell this weekend. Last season, Drake spoiled Jacksonville's hopes of an undefeated season with a late 28-24 comeback win at Drake Stadium.
