"We've got to be determined to play well. This team has had a lot of adversity. Valpo is trending up, and is well-coached. It's their last game of the season and their seniors will be playing hard." – Head Coach Ian Shields

"Last week was a tough one. I've been told that greatness is not defined when you are on top, it's what you do when you're faced with adversity. Our goal is to play hard and with perfect effort." – Redshirt-Sophomore Wide Receiver/Returner Prince Gray

First Down #FinFacts

  • Jacksonville is in its 19th season and first under new Head Coach Ian Shields

  • The Dolphins are second the @PFLNews and 22nd in the @FCS_STATS with nine fumble recoveries
  • Jacksonville has converted 17 turnovers into 67 points
  • Prince Gray would lead the @FCS_STATS with 19.7 yards-per-punt return, but is barely under qualification
  • Gray needs a min. of 1.2 returns per game to surpass Nick Feldman of Morehead St. ('05) with 19.96-yard average for the PFL single-season record
  • Grady Redding is 25th in @FCS_STATS with an average of 5.3 solo stops-per-game
  • Amongst active @FCS_STATS career leaders, Redding ranks 14th in total tackles (328), and 10th in solo stops-per-game (4.82)

#VALPOvsJU series

  • Last season, the Dolphins played their most complete game on Senior Day in a 58-13 throttling of Valpo
  • Prior to last season's meeting, the Dolphins had not played the Crusaders since 10/16/10, when JU exploded for a program and PFL-record 86 points
  • The 12 touchdowns and attempted PAT, as well as 11 made PAT, also set the PFL benchmark in that game

Career vs. Crusaders

Rushing Attack at Historic Pace

  • Jacksonville's rushing attack the last three games (433 yards vs. Morehead State tied the program best, 340 yards vs. Davidson, and 252 yards vs. Drake) accounts for the largest three-game total in JU history. The 1,039 yards surpasses a total of 968 yards gained from 10/17- 11/7/1998
  • JU is now aiming to break the record of consecutive 200-yard rushing games gained 2003. The five-game streak began with a matchup vs. Valparaiso

Jacksonville University came from behind to score two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns, but a pair of late Grant Kraemer passing touchdowns led to a heartbreaking 31-27 setback to Drake University. Rylan Wells led Jacksonville with 101 yards rushing and 110 yards passing. He put the Dolphins on the board first with a 23-yard passing strike to Brian Burnett on the opening drive of the contest. Emon Smith tallied a season-high 14 tackles. It was the second-straight game that the Dolphins did not commit a turnover.

Efficiency Engine

  • The Dolphins are averaging one sack allowed-per-game, which is 15th in the nation, second in PFL
  • The JU offense second in the PFL in passing efficiency with a 150.85 rating
  • Jacksonville is tied with Dayton for first nationally in the fewest interceptions thrown this season with five
  • In conference games, the Dolphins are limiting the opposition to a 28.1% success rate on third downs, second-best in the PFL
  • Brian Burnett is fifth in the nation with an average of 20.24 yards-per-catch, and Prince Gray is 85th with 15.33
  • Jacksonville has cleaned up its dirty laundry so far this season. After ranking at the bottom of the PFL in penalties the last two seasons, the Dolphins have committed only 47 penalties, ranking second in the conference
  • Ryan Giaratano's 40.3 career average in punting ranks 7th in PFL history

Behind Enemy Lines

Valparaiso fell to Dayton, 37-21 last week, marking its third-straight PFL loss. The Crusaders are in year three of the Dave Cecchini era and feature a squad with only four seniors. Jimmy Seewald leads PFL freshmen in passing yards and touchdowns with 1,241 yards and 11 scores. Dylan Johnson tops the rookie defensive back class with 29 tackles.
