Jacksonville University football's Calvin Turner Jr. has been named Pepsi Co. Student-Athlete of the Month for his performance on the gridiron during the past five games.
During the last month, Turner Jr. has rushed for 779 yards, with two games over 200. In that time he's accounted for 14 touchdowns, running, passing, and receiving. On Saturday, Turner Jr.'s third score of the day came on a game-winning drive with five seconds to go. His efforts in the win over Butler earned him the Pioneer Football League's Offensive Player of the Week honor.
The Savannah, Ga. native leads the Football Championship Subdivision in rushing yards per game with 167.8, and is second nationally with 16 rushing touchdowns and 1,342 rushing yards. His 16 touchdowns on the ground this season are the most by a player in program history.
Jacksonville travels to Valparaiso this weekend to face the Crusaders.
