Holder & Helgeland Sweep ASUN Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – With incredible performances in the Dolphins' season opener, J.R. Holder and Cody Helgeland of Jacksonville University's men's basketball team have been named ASUN Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday.

"We are happy for JR and Cody being honored by the conference for their performances Saturday," said Head Coach Tony Jasick. "Recognition like this is a compliment to them and the efforts of their teammates."

Holder secured his first Player of the Week honor with 30 points, 75 percent shooting from the floor, 50 percent shooting from three, and 71 percent from the line in 36 minutes of action. The senior from Atlanta, Ga., also had four rebounds and one steal. This is the first time a Dolphin has been dubbed the ASUN Player of the Week in the season's opening week since Ben Smith earned it in the opening week of the 2008-09 season.

Helgeland had 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in his Dolphin debut. The junior from Toccoa, Ga., saw the most playing time of any Dolphin, staying on the court for 38 minutes. He shot 50 percent from the floor and from three, and made all seven of his free throw attempts.

This is the first time in the history of the ASUN that JU has swept the ASUN Player and Newcomer of the Week awards.

The Dolphins return to action Monday night at 9 p.m. ET at the United States Air Force Academy. This is the first time the two teams will meet, and both teams are undefeated.
