JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University men's basketball program announced its complete slate of games for the 2018-19 season on Monday with several key non-conference matchups highlighting the long-awaited reveal.
"We're excited for the schedule we were able to put together this year," head coach Tony Jasick said. "We feel we've been able to add a number of quality opponents from respected leagues around the country highlighted by Notre Dame and Indiana from the ACC and Big 10, respectively."
A total of 15 non-conference games and 16 ASUN matchups make up the 31 game schedule. The much-anticipated, first-ever meeting with Notre Dame will take place in South Bend, Ind. on Dec. 20, followed up by a tilt with five-time national champion Indiana inside Assembly Hall on Dec. 22. This pair of marquee matchups builds off of the trio of power conference opponents that Jacksonville met last season.
The season officially opens up at home on the new, nationwide start date for NCAA college basketball, Nov. 6. The Dolphins will welcome Florida A&M to Historic Swisher Gymnasium that day as the first of five non-conference home games. The other four will feature matchups with Florida Memorial (Nov. 21), South Carolina State (Dec. 1), Middle Georgia State (Dec. 8) and the second of two tilts with Presbyterian (Dec. 30).
The road slate gets rolling with a trip out west, first to Flagstaff, Ariz. for a date with Northern Arizona on Nov. 10 followed up by a visit to one of the best environments in the country at Grand Canyon on Nov. 12. The Dolphins then head to Mobile, Ala. for three games in three days opposite Southeast Missouri (Nov. 16), South Alabama (Nov. 17) and Chattanooga (Nov. 18), respectively.
Trips to Western Carolina (Nov. 24) and Presbyterian (Dec. 4) will be sandwiched between home games in late November and early December before a three-game road trip beginning with Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 15 leads into the trips to Notre Dame and Indiana. The home game with Presbyterian completes the non-conference slate.
The New Year will bring the ASUN schedule and there will be no rest for the Dolphins who will face an immediate challenge at home in defending champion Lipscomb on Jan. 5.
"After the New Year, the ASUN should be extremely competitive with the addition of Liberty and the number of quality returning players," Jasick continued.
A trip to Kennesaw State on Jan. 9 will lead into the program's first-ever visit to Lynchburg, Va. and Liberty University on Jan. 12. The Dolphins then return home for their first look at North Alabama on Jan. 16 before heading back out on the road for matchups with NJIT on Jan. 19 and round one of the River City Rumble at North Florida on Jan. 24.
For the first time all season, JU will face back-to-back home games when Liberty (Jan. 27) and Stetson (Jan. 30) visit Swisher Gymnasium. A trip down to the gulf side for a date with FGCU (Feb. 2) will follow before Kennesaw State comes to town on Feb. 6.
Jacksonville faces back-to-back road games to Lipscomb (Feb. 9) and Stetson (Feb. 13) before returning home for three of four to close the regular season; beginning with round two of the River City Rumble against North Florida on Feb. 20. The penultimate home game is opposite NJIT (Feb. 23) and the last road trip will be to North Alabama (Feb. 26).
The 2018-19 regular season schedule concludes on March 1, officially kicking off March Madness inside Swisher opposite FGCU in a matchup that will certainly have postseason implications. The 2019 ASUN Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 4th, 7th and 10th.
"We're looking forward to the start of the season," Jasick continued. "And seeing everyone at Phin Fever followed by the opener on Nov. 6 in Historic Swisher Gymnasium!"
