Jacksonville in 14th at SunTrust Gator Invite

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After 36-holes concluded today, the Jacksonville University men's golf team is in 14th at the SunTrust Gator Invitational. Action concludes from the par-70 6,701 yard Mark Bostick Golf Course tomorrow with the final 18-holes commencing at 8 a.m.

"The course is a really stern test of golf and demands really good shots," said head coach Mike Blackburn. "We played a little too aggressively on our approach shots. We were able to get up and down but weren't creating the best opportunities to shoot low scores but tomorrow is a new day. Our spirits are good and there is no quit in us."

Freshman Raul Pereda paces the squad after a four-over par second round to notch a tie for 43rd among the 75 student athlete leaderboard with a nine-over par combined score.

Junior Franck Medale improved his first round of eight-over par by five strokes to card a 73 in the second. With the momentum, Medale fired a birdie on the final hole of the day, cementing a one-under par on the front-nine where he will begin his round tomorrow.

Those competing with Jacksonville include three inside the top-25 including No. 3 Florida State, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 22 USF. Rounding out the field of 14 include Arkansas, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Liberty, Mercer, North Florida, UAB, UCF and tournament host Florida.

Three other Dolphins in action, senior Nick Torrance also improved in the second-round, shedding five strokes off his first round total to notch a six-over par, while senior Brett McKinnon carded rounds of 76-77 and sits in a tie for 60th. Senior Connor Salanger was six-over par in the second-round after a 78 in the first.

South Florida leads the field with a combined two-under par. Arkansas is two shots back of the leader while Florida State, Florida and Vanderbilt round out the top-five team scoring.

Kolton Crawford of Arkansas, JD Tomlinson and Martin Rohwer are tied at the top of the leaderboard after three-under par tournament scores.

Action continues tomorrow in the SunTrust Gator Invite, where live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
