STATESBORO, Ga. – Fueled by a terrific second round by Sam Uhland, Jacksonville University's men's golf team moved up two spots on the team leaderboard on Saturday. The Dolphins are now sixth after 36 holes at the 2017 Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern at the Forest Heights Country Club.
Uhland carded a 69 in the second round to move up nine spots on the individual leaderboard. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is now tied for 12th overall with a two-round total of 140 (71=69). He has finished par or better on 31 of his 36 holes, including eight birdies and an eagle on his final hole of the day. Raul Pereda also finished under par Saturday with a 71 in the second round. The junior from Cordoba, Mexico, is now tied for 18th individually with 142 (71+71). David Wicks is tied for 22nd after 36 with 143, Ryan Jahn has 149 after two rounds and is tied for 48th, and Elliott Fullaove is tied for 73rd with 156.
Tournament host Georgia Southern is currently in first with a two-round total of 556. #1 Vanderbilt moved up four spots on Saturday to second place and now has 563 through 36 holes. #2 Florida is now tied for third with N.C. State with 564, and Lipscomb dropped from third to fifth with 568 after two. Jacksonville moved up from a tie for eighth to sit alone in sixth at 574.
The final round will begin at 9:15 a.m. for JU with Fullalove teeing off on the first hole, followed by Jahn, Wicks, Pereda, and Uhland in nine-minute increments. Sunny skies are expected at tee time with temperatures around 46 degrees. Those sunny skies will stick around through the afternoon with a high around 65 degrees.
