STATESBORO, Ga. – The 2016-17 regular season wrapped up Sunday for Jacksonville University in the final round of the 2017 Schenkel Invitational. The Dolphins finished seventh out of 14 teams competing at the Forest Heights Country Club.
David Wicks was the highest-finishing Dolphin in a tie for 15th place. The senior from Bexhill, England, carded 213 through three rounds with 47 holes of par or better, including 11 birdies and an eagle. Raul Pereda hit a hole in one on the sixth hole, one of 46 holes of par or better. The junior from Cordoba, Mexico, tied for 24th with 216 through 54 holes. Sam Uhland tied for 34th with 219, Ryan Jahn carded 223 to tie for 46th, and Elliott Fullalove tied for 63rd with 228.
#2 University of Florida took the team title with a three-round total of 846, narrowly defeating tournament host Georgia Southern (848). #1 Vanderbilt had 849 to finish third, N.C. State came in fourth with 859, and Kentucky rounded out the Top 5 with 860. Iowa carded 862 to finish sixth, and seventh place went to Jacksonville with 864. The Dolphins did finish higher than fellow ASUN Conference members Lipscomb (T-8th, 868) and North Florida (10th, 869).
The Dolphins will have to wait four weeks before returning to action in the ASUN Conference tournament, which will take place April 16-18 at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga.
