Dolphins Look to Continue Successful Run at Head of the Hooch

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University's men's rowing program have a history of success at the Head of the Hooch. In the last two years, the Dolphins have posted four top-three times, including a No. 1 finish by the 2013 Novice 8 crew, in the regatta deemed one of the world's largest. On Saturday, Nov. 1, JU looks to build on those achievements as they send four boats to maneuver the Tennessee River.

"We've been looking forward to this regatta all fall," said Head Coach Marci Robles. "We'll be going up against some very fast crews, so it'll be a great opportunity for us to see where we stand. The guys have been working hard to get better physically and technically, so the goal is to go out there and execute our race plan to the best of our ability and then build from there."

Last fall, the Dolphins took home first place in the Novice 8 heat with a time of 15:17.1. The Varsity 8 crews navigated the 5,000 meter course with times of 15:06.2 and 15:29.4 to finish fourth and eleventh, respectively.  In the Championship 8+ race, Jacksonville's A boat claimed third place while the B crew wasn't far behind with a time of 16:38.4 to place sixth.

Next, Jacksonville visits DeLand for the Stetson Fall Race on Saturday, Nov. 8.
