JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Wrapping up a four game homestand to open the 2017 season, Jacksonville University's men's soccer team will host UCF on Monday at 7 in Southern Oak Stadium. The Dolphins (0-3-0) and Knights (0-2-0) are both searching for their first win on the year.
LAST TIME OUT
Kai Bennett pulled JU within one with a beautiful touch in the 71st minute, but the Dolphins had some tough luck in the final 19 minutes of Friday's 2-1 loss to UAB. Jacksonville had four shots at the equalizer off of seven corners in just the closing moments of the game.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION – UCF
UCF is 0-2 on the season after losing 2-0 at Duke and 1-0 vs Elon in the John Rennie Nike Invitational. The Knights' home opener, scheduled for Sept. 1 against Charlotte, was canceled due to inclement weather. The last time UCF came to JU the Knights emerged with a 3-2 win over the Dolphins, including a goal by senior Matias Pyysalo.
Players to watch out for include:
- Freshman goalkeeper Yannik Oetti – Named to the Nike Invite All-Tournament team, Oetti had nine saves across two matches.
- Pyysalo – Tallied a team-best four shots, which included one on target.
The Dolphins will begin a four-game road trip vs. Gardner-Webb in the Coastal Empire Challenge at Statesboro, Ga., on Friday, Sept. 8 and against Georgia Southern on Sept. 10, also a part of the Coastal Empire Challenge. JU will continue the trip through most of the rest of September, playing at #24 Charlotte and at FGCU before closing September at home against Georgia State on Sept. 30.
