Turnock, Dugan Race to Personal Bests in Season Opener

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University men's cross country team saw a pair of runners set new career-best times in the shortened 5,000-meter course to open the season at the UNF Cross Country Invitational, Friday evening at the UNF Golf Complex.

Junior Alex Turnock and sophomore Peter Dugan raced to new personal bests in the shortened 5,000-meter course, as Turnock took over 22 seconds off his previous PR with a time of 16:31.0 (23rd) and Dugan shaved over three minutes off his time at last year's race to be the second Dolphin to cross the line in 18:26.8 (53rd).

"As with most early season races, there were some unexpected results on both the positive and less than positive sides. A properly designed cross country season builds momentum and ends strongly; now we know both out starting point and how much work we have left to do."

The Dolphins' lone senior on the team, Brett Gerhardt, finished in 18:42.5, while freshman Gabriel Nackashi and junior Nick Ohlwein crossed the line back-to-back in 70th and 71st.

The Dolphins return to action in two weeks when they head to the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22.
