JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-Taking advantage of opportunities to be in the starting lineup, Jacksonville University women's basketball senior Naqaiyyah Teague has been named the Napa Newcomer of the Month for the month of January.
A transfer from UNCW, Teague averaged close to a double-double in six contests this past month, putting up 9.2 points-per-game and 7.7 assists-per-contest. She eclipsed double-figures in three games, guiding the Dolphins through easy wins against North Florida and NJIT. Her performances earned her a spot in the starting lineup the last four games. She led all scorers with 15 points against FGCU on Jan. 27, and nearly had her second double-double of the year, adding nine boards.
Teague has been honored twice by the ASUN Conference thus far, earning a pair of ASUN Newcomer of the Week honors. Her first came on Dec. 19, 2017, following a double-double effort in points and rebounds to lift JU over Bethune-Cookman. She most recently took home the accolade on Jan, 30, thanks to her performance against the Eagles, which also included 38 minutes of playing time, and saw her shoot 7-12 from the floor. Teague helped the Dolphins compile a 5-1 record in the month of January, which included a six game winning streak that dated back to December.
