The ASUN Conference announced the selections for this year's women's basketball Preseason All-Conference team today. Among those receiving recognition was Jacksonville senior Jasmyn Brown, who was one of ten women to be chosen. Brown was tabbed as a unanimous selection to the list after putting together the best season of her collegiate career in 2017-18.
Brown, a native of Haines City, Fla., led the Dolphins in scoring last season and ranked fifth in the ASUN with 10.4 points per game. Her 444 points were fifth all-time for a single season in program history, and with 13 more Brown will become Jacksonville's 10th all-time leading scorer. In one of her best collegiate performances Brown dropped 29 points while hitting five-of-seven shots from beyond the arc against Troy last year. It was one of three times she suprpassed the 20-point mark in 2017-18.
Coming out of Haines City High School Brown made a big impact during her freshman year, starting 29 of 33 games and knocking down 252 points. She also played more than any freshman in the conference, logging 31 minutes per game. Her efforts saw her named to the ASUN All-Freshman team in 2016.
Brown would miss 14 games during her sophomore season due to injury, but managed 17 starts and scored in the double-figures in seven of them. With the 2018-19 season still ahead of her, Brown sits at number eight on the Dolphins' all-time career minutes list.
Along with the All-Conference list the ASUN released the 2018-19 Preseason Coaches Poll, which has Jacksonville finishing the season ranked fourth behind Stetson, Liberty, and FGCU. The Preseason Media Poll, which is voted on by Sports information directors and members of the media, also had Jacksonville coming in at fourth with two first place votes.
Jacksonville's 2018-19 campaign gets underway Wednesday, Nov. 7 when the 'Phins play host to Webber International at Swisher Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
