JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Michelle Forsland parlayed the best 54-hole tournament score in Jacksonville University Women's Golf history into a second consecutive ASUN Golfer of the Week honor Thursday.
"The ASUN Conference is becoming more competitive each year and I believe this could be the strongest it's been since I've been at JU," said Head Coach Jennifer Borocz. "It is a great honor to get this award, but back-to-back is special."
Forsland, who shot a program record 210 in finishing third overall in the Pinehurst Challenge earlier this week, earned her second career conference weekly award. She is the first JU women's golfer since Jessica Welch in 2015 to earn the distinction in back-to-back weeks.
"Jess set the bar high for future players at JU, and now those future players are setting the bar even higher," said Borocz.
Her score of 210 beat the previous program record, set by Welch in the 2014 Cincinnati Spring Invite, by one-stroke. She finished tied for the best scoring on Par-5s for the tournament, shooting 7-under through the three rounds in Pinehurst. Not just great on Par-5s, she was also a mark of consistency throughout, notching the fourth most pars overall.
The reigning ASUN Freshman of the Year has already shot three rounds in the 60s this season after a low round of 70 last year. Her scoring average through the first two tournaments of the year is 70.8.
"I'm very proud of Michelle and know that there are many more honors to come this year and in her future," said Borocz.
JU finishes up the fall season Oct. 22-24 at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
