JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Give me liberty or give me lacrosse.
American Patrick Henry was famously quoted as saying "give me liberty or give me death," in 1775, but for Jacksonville University women's lacrosse, a Tuesday victory against the Scotland National team gave Jacksonville reign over the United Kingdom. Following victories over Wales and England in prior years, the Dolphins are the queens of the crosse from across the pond.
Tuesday saw the Dolphins cruise to a 24-13 exhibition domination of Scotland during the Scots' 2017 United States tour. A total of 16 different Dolphins found the back of the cage.
A year ago, all active players saw the field in a 14-5 Dolphin triumph against Wales at home. In 2013, JU enjoyed the last sip of tea in a 12-11, three-overtime tilt against England. That marked the first international victory in program history, with the Dolphins dropping an 11-10 decision to England the previous year.
Jacksonville continues its eight-game home stand with an ESPN3 broadcast matchup vs. UMASS on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. Admission and sideline Adirondack seating is free.
