Dolphins Show Well at Stetson Invite

DELAND, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's rowing team competed at the Stetson Invite on Saturday afternoon and showed extremely well across the board with so many individuals on the roster competing in their first collegiate event.

The women's Varsity 8+ Team A was the brightest star for the Dolphins as that group finished in 12:49.7 to take second place overall in the event. JU Team B finished third in 12:56.1 and Team C rounded out the trio of top 10 finishes for JU in that event in sixth in 13:13.2. In the women's Varsity 4+ event, JU Team B cruised in 13:30.8 for a third-place finish and in the women's Novice 8+ race, JU went 1-2 with Team A finishing in 14:13.0 and Team B closing in 14:21.0.

"Today was great opportunity to put all of our hard work this fall to the test," head coach Mike Lane said. "For many of our athletes this was their introduction to collegiate racing and a first ever racing experience for our novice athletes. I was very impressed with our varsity eights today and we have been very pleased by our freshman class this year and how they've been able to come in and contribute right away. We are excited to continue this momentum forward as we prepare for Head of the South in two weeks."

Once again, the Dolphins will be back in action at the Head of the South in Augusta, Ga. on Nov. 10. That event will round out the fall schedule for the women's rowing program as it looks forward to a strong spring slate that'll get started in March.
