Dolphins Wrap Up Successful Outing at Head of the South

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Jacksonville University women's rowing team competed at the Head of the South on Saturday and showed its dominance, earning medals in every event it entered, including a pair of medals in a single event.

The women's championship 8+ teams stole the show on Saturday. The Jacksonville 'A' team took home the top spot in that event, finishing in 17:09.3 while the 'B' team rolled up in third with a 17:58.1 mark. The Dolphins also placed seventh and 10th in the same event.

"I was really proud and excited about our performance today," head coach Mike Lane said. "Today was a great example of our team depth medaling in every event and even two medals in some events."

The women's championship 4+ teams finished first, second, fourth and fifth, respectively with the top spot going to the team that finished in 18:02.4. The women's novice 8+ even was dominated by the Dolphins who finished one-two with nearly a minute clearance between them and the third-place finisher. The women's junior 4+ team took home a third-place finish as well.

"We have a long road to our MAAC Championship however," Lane continued. "Finishing our fall on a high note is always a great way to send us into our winter training segment."

The fall schedule is officially in the books for Jacksonville that will now wait until Mar. 9 to hit the water again opposite Embry-Riddle. That event will actually take place at home on the St. John's River.

"We are operating with both confidence but also the utmost respect for our conference foes," Lane concluded. "Our athletes know this is the time to keep our foot on the gas!"
