Dolphins Drop Heart Breaker in Overtime at Charleston Southern, 2-1

CHARLESTON, S.C. – For the second-straight contest, the Jacksonville University women's soccer team (0-7-1) forced overtime with its opponent but Charleston Southern (3-1-1) snuck by a winner in the extra frame to come away with the 2-1 victory.

The Dolphins were, once again, buoyed by six saves in net from Brittany Hundley. She faced 17 shots in total over 96 minutes of play. As a team, JU managed 11 shots of its own with the lone goal coming off the foot of Emma Vasquez, her first of the season. All five of JU's goals this season have come from different players.

After a scoreless first half, the second yielded results. Kayla Robinson of CSU canned the first score of the afternoon in the 65th minute when a long run down the left side opened up a try from 25 yards out that found its mark. JU was up to the task of playing from behind, as just about five minutes later, Madicynn Harnish fed a perfect pass to the top of the box for Vasquez who buried the game-tying goal.

Back-and-forth both sides went until a lightning delay around the 10-minute mark halted the proceedings for nearly an hour. Each side was able to peel off shots before the buzzer at the end of regulation rang out but overtime was imminent.

CSU found the best chance in the overtime period and didn't miss it. In the 97th minute, Kat Klingensmith beat the defense, took a feed from Kayla Robinson and scored the winner into the top corner.

The Dolphins have one match left on their non-conference schedule and it will come during a return trip to Charleston, S.C. for a date with The Citadel on Sept. 14.
