Dolphins Earn a Huge Win on Senior Day

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's soccer team (1-8-1, 1-1-0 ASUN) played its most complete game of the season on Sunday afternoon, knocking off rival Stetson (3-5-3, 0-1-1 ASUN) at Southern Oak Stadium to earn, not only its first win of the season, but the first win in the career of first year head coach Laura Kane.

Prior to Sunday's contest the Dolphins honored the careers of its four seniors, Kyra Cloutier, Kayla Hancock, Brittany Hundley and Chanci Roseberry, all of whom earned starts in the game.

The first half failed to yield any true advantage as both sides managed just three shots apiece. Hundley was the only keeper that needed to make a save, turning aside a pair of tries in the danger zone. The second half made up for that lack of action in spades.

Stetson made a goalkeeper change and she was challenged early and often by the Jacksonville attack. Six second half shots peppered the Stetson net but it wasn't until the 65th minute that JU finally broke through. Madicynn Harnish carried the ball deep into the Stetson area before serving Sarah Alexander at the top of the box who bent a shot around the diving goalkeeper for her second score of the season.

That lead was challenged right away but Hundley was up to the task. By the end of the second half the Hatters would produce 12 total shots, forcing Hundley to make seven second-half saves in the process giving her nine total for the game. Late in the game a Stetson shot rang off the crossbar and landed at the feet of another Hatter who fired point-blank but Brit was there to make an incredible save.

The defense packed it in down the stretch and held off the counter-attack to pick up its first win of the season and move even in ASUN play. Next up will be a trip to Kennesaw State next Friday before returning home to host NJIT on Sunday.
