JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Ron Grigg has announced the Dolphins’ 2017 cross country schedule, and the Dolphins will travel to North Florida, Florida, and Florida State before opening the championship season in late October.
“We are fortunate to have a pretty good yearly routine with our schedule,” said Grigg. “It will allow us the patient build up towards the ASUN Championship in late October, while running in the best meets the state of Florida has to offer.”
Jacksonville open the 2017 season across town at the UNF XC Invitational on Sept. 9. Two weeks later, the Dolphins head to Gainesville for the UF Mountain Dew Invitational (Sept. 23) before closing out the regular season Oct. 6 at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee.
If last season is any indication of what is to come in 2017, the Dolphins set and broke several career-best times at each race to rewrite the Dolphin record books. The women's side had several strong team finishes, including second at UF and third at FSU, while the men's team placed fourth at FSU and set several season and career bests en route to an appearance at the NCAA South Region meet.
Championship season begins Oct. 28 when JU travels to Kennesaw State for the ASUN Conference Championship, where last season the women placed second and the men finished eighth.
Qualifying Dolphins will then head to the University of Alabama Nov. 10 for the NCAA South Region Championship. There, they will compete for a shot at the NCAA Championship in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 19.
