Box Score Dolphins score 11 unanswered goals to take control
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. â€" The high octane offense of the Jacksonville women’s lacrosse team was on full display Sunday afternoon in the Dolphins 15-7 win over Vanderbilt at D.B. Milne Field. Â
The victory evens JU’s record at 1-1 on the season heading into a match-up with preseason No. 3 Florida on Feb. 13 at the Ashley Sports Complex. Vanderbilt fell to 0-1 on the year. Â
Junior
Morgan Derner (Lake Mary, Fla.) and senior
Amanda Hurley (Columbus, Ga.) led the way for the Dolphins scoring four goals each. Also posting multi-goal games were sophomore
Holly Ventimiglia (Medford, N.Y.) with three goals and sophomore
Taylor McCord (Jacksonville, Fla.) with two goals and two assists. Â
The Commodores Carly Linthicum scored the first of her five goals three minutes into the game, but JU was ready with the answer. McCord set up junior
Brittney Orashen (Lebanon, N.J.) to even the score at the 21 minute mark of the first half and the Dolphins continued to roll from there. Â
With senior goalie Karli Tobin (Moorestown, N.J.) making several key saves in the cage, the JU offense had little trouble pulling away as they ripped off 11 unanswered goals to take control. Â
When Vanderbilt finally ended the drought with 22 minutes remaining the Dolphins responded a mere 12 seconds later to quickly end any thoughts of a Commodore comeback. Â
Jacksonville outshot Vanderbilt 30-20 and won 16 draw controls.
