Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Jacksonville University volleyball team shut out the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Tuesday evening in three-sets for its ninth-straight set victory. The Dolphins improve to 12-10, 2-4 on the road while Bethune-Cookman falls to 6-17, 4-3 at home.
"Winning is always special and when you add in winning on the road it's always a little bit sweeter," said head coach Julie Darty. "Tonight was great for our prep and focus as we continue into our conference play and for everyone to have a hand in the win was great for our team."
Leading the way for the Dolphins, Jizzian Gesualdo had game-high service aces with six and assists with 30. Sammie Strausbaugh records her 15th double-double of the season with 12 kills and 13 digs in the victory, while Ana Gabriella Nieto-Gomez had seven kills and five total blocks. Kelly Koop chipped in seven kills and four blocks.
Jacksonville closed the evening with a three-set match season-high 10 service-aces in the final stanza behind Gesualdo and Rebecca Shickley whom had four and three, respectively.
Each set, JU was able to get out in front early and maintain a cushion that would amount to 25-20, 25-14 and 25-15 victories that extended to an 85-minute match total. A dominating road effort that proved the Dolphins could be a successful away team; a confidence booster in time for a couple of conference matchups this week.
"We learned tonight that we can go into someone else's gym and play as well as we did," said Darty, "was a good lesson for us this week and my hope is we feel ready to go to work this weekend."
Jacksonville returns to action Friday, October 24 when it travels to North Florida for the River City Rumble that has conference alignment implications.
