Box Score BOONE, N.C. – It was only a matter of time before Jacksonville University's Rijad Kobiljar scored his first collegiate goal. The freshman forward from Sarajevo, Bosnia has assisted on a majority of JU's scores, has taken the third most shots on the Dolphins' squad and finally found the back of the net in the 57th minute of Jacksonville's match at Appalachian State.
Kobiljar's goal tied the match at 1-all before the Dolphins gave up a dagger in the final minutes to drop the affair by a score of 2-1. In the defeat, Jacksonville fell to 3-8 on the season.
The Mountaineers (4-5-2, 0-0-1 Sun Belt) got off to a quick start in the 15th minute when a free kick landed in front of Donovan Japp and he touched it to Alex Beranger for the goal.
App State's 1-0 lead carried into halftime and nearly 12 minutes after intermission, senior forward Matheus Saroli crossed the ball to Kobiljar and he ripped a shot from about 20 yards out to draw the match at 1-1.
A minute and a half away from an overtime period, the Mountaineers sent a through ball toward the near side and Stanley Broaden chased and touched it past the goal line for the game winner.
The Mountaineers led in shots by a margin of 14-to-7, including shots on goal, 6-to-2. JU keeper Marc Meny recorded four saves on the night and Jack Burns posted a team-high two shots, one on goal.
The Dolphins will have a little over a week to recuperate and regroup before heading back into Atlantic Sun competition. JU hosts Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
