Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 12-0 second half run by Jackson State proved to be more than the young Dolphins were able to overcome on Tuesday as Jacksonville suffered a 66-57 loss at Veterans Memorial Arena.
"Really frustrating with that part of the game," said Head Coach Tony Jasick, whose team fell to 1-2 on the year. "It is one thing in my opinion to lose a little bit of your awareness, but we did it on three out of four possessions which allowed their guy to get hot."
Jackson State's (1-2) guy was Javeres Brent. Brent accounted for eight points during the decisive run, including a five on one possession after an intentional foul was whistled on the Dolphins. He finished with a team high 14 points and hit all three of the Tigers three pointers for the game within a three minute span of the second half.
"I thought we did a pretty good job of managing (Javeres) Brent most of the game," said Jasick. He is a talented shooter and we lost focus there which burned us. As we grow going forward, we have to do better of staying aware in those situations."
Despite the run the Dolphins, who led for the majority of the first half, continued to fight. Behind the three-point shooting of Josh Adeyeye (13 points) and Andris Misters (16 points), Jacksonville whittled a nine point deficit down to five and then to four with just under eight minutes to play. The Dolphins were never able to the defensive stop needed to get any closer.
"It is unfortunate that tonight got away from us in that one stretch," added Jasick. "We had some opportunities at the rim and at the foul line in the final minutes to really make a game of it, but we we're able to capitalize."
Kori Babineaux joined Adeyeye and Misters in double figures with 11 points to go along with his team high seven rebounds and five assists.
"We are not talented enough yet on the offensive end to with stand a run such as we did," added Jasick. "Our guys are doing a much better job of playing together on the offensive end, except for the turnovers. We are getting there. We have to make sure we stay together as a group and hopefully we can grow and see the results we want."
Jacksonville returns to action at N.C. State on Thursday night. The game can be heard live on 92.1 FM.
