Jacksonville Drops Series Finale at North Florida

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After winning the first two games of the series, Jacksonville dropped the series finale 11-2 at North Florida on Sunday. The Dolphins had their four game conference win streak snapped, but still finish the weekend with their second straight A-Sun series win.

"Disappointing we didn't complete the sweep today, but our goal coming in was to get two of three on the road," said Head Coach Tim Montez.  "That's the big picture from this point forward. We are thin depth wise in some areas. but if we stay positive and keep grinding good things are going to happen for these guys the last half of the season"

Continuing its stellar play from the last two days, Jacksonville (10-20; 5-7 A-Sun) jumped on the board in the first. Sophomore Connor Marabell (Jacksonville, Fla.) started things off with a RBI single to left. Senior Scott Schaub (Ocala, Fla.) followed witha RBI single of his own to put the Dolphins on top 2-0.

Jacksonville starter Justin Russell (Jacksonville, Fla.) was strong thru the first four innings allowing only one hit. He would run into trouble in the fifth however as North Florida (15-17; 6-6 A-Sun) took the lead for good scoring four runs in the innings, including a three-run home run off the bat of Drew Weeks, who leads the A-Sun in hitting this season.

"Olmstead who did a good job of throwing strikes for them and we never got anything going offensively," Montez said.  "JR did a good job early on and just had a mental lapse there in the fifth. When you play a good quality team they are going to take advantage of that."

The Ospreys added seven more in the seventh to account for the final score.

Braddock Rowe (Jacksonville, Fla.) had two hits to lead seven different player who had hits in the game for the Dolphins.

Jacksonville is back on action at Florida A&M on Tuesday before hosting Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday at 6:00 pm. A-Sun play gets underway again next weekend as the Dolphins host Florida Gulf Coast starting on Friday at 6:30 pm. All three games vs Florida Gulf Coast can be heard on 92.5 FM.
