Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A strong effort by the Jacksonville women's soccer team in front of a packed house at Southern Oak Stadium was not quite enough against a formidable Boston College team on Friday night as the Dolphins were handed a 1-0 loss
"I am extremely proud of our girls effort and fight tonight," said Head Coach Brian Copham. "We knew this was going to be a tough task, but I couldn't have asked for better effort. BC didn't make the NCAA quarterfinals on accident last year."
Jacksonville had two excellent scoring chances in the opening five minutes, but a team save and another stop by Eagles goalie Alex Johnson left the game in a scoreless tie.
The Dolphins defense anchored by goalie Sarah Sierra (Madera, Calif.) would keep Boston College at bay until the 41st minute. Meg MacDonald accounted for the lone goal in the contest when she her shot from 25 yards out on the left side ricochetted off the far post and into the net.
Jacksonville stayed poised despite several over chances for Boston College to break the game open in the second half. The Dolphins remained within striking distance but were unable to generate the right scoring opportunity.
"Tonight we learned how important the attention to little details can be," added Copham. "I look forward to seeing the girls bounce back Sunday."
Freshman Sami Koemans (Rancho Cucamunga, Calif.) led Jacksonville with two shots. Sierra equaled a season high with seven saves in goal.
The Dolphins are back in action on Sunday against Lafayette for a 1:00 pm match.
