Mrabure's Two Goals Not Enough vs Vermont

Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Freshman Ejiroghene Mrabure (Mississauga, Ontario) scored two goals for the Jacksonville men's soccer team on Sunday, but it wasn't enough for the Dolphins which fell 3-2 to Vermont at the annual "Soccer for a Cure Classic" hosted by UAB.

Mrabure, who now has a team best three goals on the year, put Jacksonville (1-4) on the board first with a goal in the 18th minute. Vermont (5-1) responded on the other end five minutes later. The Catamounts drew a corner kick in the 23rd minute which eventually resulted in an own goal that knotted the match at 1-1.

Vermont added another score later in the first half at 31:05 for a 2-1 halftime advantage. The lead grew to 3-1 in the 64th minute when Danny Childs scored.

The Dolphins continue to compete however as Mrabure netted his second score of the game in the 69th minute off an assist from junior Griffin Kelly (St. Johns, Fla). Freshman Rijad Kobijar (Sarajevo, Bosnia) had a chance to tie the game shortly after but his shot in the 71st minute was blocked by a Vermont defender.

Jacksonville returns home on Friday to face Wofford in a 7:00 pm match.
