DAVIDSON, N.C. - Jacksonville University's men's soccer team wrapped the first game of a four-match non-conference road swing with a 2-0 setback at Davidson on Friday night. In the defeat, JU fell to 1-2-0 overall while the Wildcats improved to 2-0-1.

"We started really strong for the first ten minutes of the game," said Head Coach Mauricio Ruiz. "Once Davidson settled down, the momentum of the game changed and we didn't do a good enough job adjusting to it in the first half. We got away from doing what we are good at.  In the second half we got back to being ourselves but at that point, chasing the game against a well-coached and experienced team, we left ourselves vulnerable in the back and that's when the second goal came. I'm proud of our boys for responding in the second half and fighting once again to the end. We learned some good lessons today and have to look to reapply ourselves on Sunday versus Asheville."

Davidson took a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute on an assisted shot from Alan Reiter outside of the 18-yard box. Following the score, the Dolphins worked their hardest to get on board, outshooting the Wildcats 3-to-1 to close the half with Jack Burns' attempt falling in the hands of Davidson's keeper.

Valeriy Viderskiy later doubled Davidson's lead, 2-0, on a one-on-one play with keeper Marc Meny at 76:10.

Overall, the Dolphins held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks but were outshot in the contest 19-8.

Meny finished the match with six saves in the net for Jacksonville.

JU returns to the pitch on Sunday, August 7 in a 1 p.m. match at UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs (1-1-1) are coming off of a 1-0 loss to VMI.
