Reddick and Gordon Combine for 33 Points; JU Falls to Lipscomb

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville University women's basketball team battled to the very end but ultimately fell to Lipscomb by a score of 75-63. Sherranda Reddick and Kayla Gordon combined for 33 points as the Dolphins dropped to 6-11 on the season and 1-3 in the Atlantic Sun.

After a brief hiatus, Reddick has reappeared in JU's starting five and was in true form against the Lady Bisons. With a fifty percent (5-for-10) effort from the floor including three makes from the three-point area, Reddick led the Fins with 18 points. Gordon, coming off of the bench and accounting for most of the reserves' points, added 15 with nine rebounds and no turnovers in 25 minutes of action.

Kimberly Dawkins finished the evening with six points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks while LaDeyah Forte' dished a game-high seven assists.

It was a perfect game to start the contest. Both teams scored on their first two possessions but it was the Lady Bisons who held the early advantage as they went a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc. With 15:19 remaining in the first half, Lipscomb held a 13-4 advantage.

Reddick concluded the Fins' scoreless slump with her first three-pointer, 13-7, and her teammates marched on from there with a 10-2 run to pull within one, 15-14, at 13:07. The score remained a one or two possession game until the 5:25 mark when a LU jumper provided the team with a 32-23 cushion. Before the horn, Loliya Briggs hit a deep trey to close the half with JU behind, 41-33.

Combating a 25-point deficit in the second half, the Dolphins pieced together a 14-1 run to close the contest. The Lady Bisons built their advantage on three-pointers and JU wasn't able to record defensive stops. The last time they trailed under double-digits was with 13:55 remaining.

While the end result wasn't what they wanted, the Dolphins can take pride in the fact that they held LU without a shot from the floor in the final 4:28.  Over the course of the stretch, JU forced four turnovers while committing none of its own and scored on three of those Lipscomb mishaps.

Jacksonville returns to Swisher Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 24 with a 2 p.m. tilt against Northern Kentucky.
