Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville Dolphins ousted the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 22-4 on Saturday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field.
"I felt the big difference between today's game and our game against Florida was our draw work," said head coach Paul McCord. "While our starting unit didn't get to play much this game, I felt like they established themselves on the draw really well. We did a good job of disrupting the flow of their offensive, so overall I feel like we got a lot of good play in today and we still have adjustments to be made."
11 different players had goals for JU. Taylor McCord led the offensive with six goals on nine shots, Danielle Della Rocca netted four goals on seven shots. Rachel Aus, Jaime Chapman and Jess Worcester all ended the game with two goals each. Additionally, Hannah Wilcox, Brittney Orashen,Alyssa Lazaro, Caitlin McMahon, Abby Remenapp and Ashtyn Hiron all scored a goal.
"I think our focus and mental aspect was different today than it was on Wednesday," said senior attacker, McCord. "On Wednesday we focused more on scouting the other team and what the other team was doing instead of focusing on our game and how we do things. Our focus today was on our play and working together as a team to create opportunities for each other."
The Dolphins went 15-0 in the first half with the first three goals being in the first minute and half. With Jacksonville up 5-0 with 25 minutes left in the game, Central Connecticut State took the first timeout. Following the timeout, it took five minutes before the Dolphins to score again. But they weren't stopping there, JU continued to score nine more goals in the last 20 minutes of the first half. The Dolphins had a running clock nearly the entire game as the clock started at the 15 minute mark in the first half and didn't stop the rest of the game.
After halftime, Jacksonville continue their scoring streak as they went on a 5-0 run before CCSU countered with a Elyse Malecki goal with 8:54 left in the game. The Blue Devils scored four more goals to end the game. In the second half, all seven goals were scored by a different Dolphin.
The Dolphins return to the turf Friday, February 20 as they face Elon at D.B. Milne Field at 7 p.m.
