JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Victoria Brown struck out eight in five innings in while Emily Sanchez and Lexie Ballard each hit two run home runs in a six-run third inning to lead Jacksonville to a 9-1 win over Abilene Christian on Friday at the Dolphins Classic. After big inning by Jacksonville in the third, Danielle Baker provided the game winner in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run shot of her own to invoke an eight-run run rule.
Sanchez knocked in three runs in the contest adding a two-out RBI single in the first along with her fourth home run of the year in the third. Ballard's home run, her third of the season came two batters later and extend the Dolphins lead to 7-0.
Abilene Christian broke up Brown's shutout bid in the top of the fifth with a one-out RBI single before Ashley Simon ended the threat by turning a double play at second to end the inning.
In the fifth Courtney Smith laced a two-out double to left center before Baker followed with her first home run of the year. Hitting out of the leadoff spot, Baker had three hits in the game and scored three runs.
On the mound, Brown allowed just three hits while recording her sixth win of the year and equaling a career high with her eight strikeouts.
