Box Score CONWAY, S.C.—The Jacksonville University women's lacrosse team downed Coastal Carolina 17-11 on Saturday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
Danielle Della Rocca, Hannah Wilcox and Rachel Aus all scored a hat trick against the Chanticleers. Della Rocca led the team offensively with three goals and six points. Jacksonville led in shots, ground balls and draw controls. Jess Worcester had a season-high 10 draw controls.
In the first half, Coastal Carolina scored first, but Jacksonville countered with an unassisted goal from Abby Remenapp. The Chanticleers went on a 2-0 run, but the Dolphins ended that with a 4-0 run with goals from Holly Ventimiglia, Brittney Orashen, Aus and Remenapp. Jacksonville never lost the lead following the 4-0 run. The Dolphins added five more goals in the remaining 15 minutes left in the first half, from Della Rocca, Wilcox, and Worcester. Jacksonville led 10-6 at the half.
Following halftime, the Dolphins started off by scoring in the first 14 seconds, Della Rocca scored a man-up goal off an assist from Ventimiglia. Jacksonville's Aus and Wilcox each scored goals in the next four minutes to put them up 13-6. Coastal Carolina attempted to make a comeback, but the Dolphins added two more goals, to give them their largest lead (eight goals).
Even with the Chanticleers scoring four more goals in the game, the Dolphins never let them get within five. Jacksonville added two more goals to the board to end the game.
The Dolphins return to D.B. Milne Field on Wednesday, March 4 as they face La Salle at 4 p.m. The game will be shown on ESPN3.
