Box Score ROCK HILL, S.C., – The Jacksonville University baseball team dropped the second game of the three game set to Winthrop on Saturday afternoon, 9-1. The Dolphins (5-5) look to mark in the final at Winthrop Ballpark against the Eagles (5-3). First pitch is now scheduled for 2 p.m due to inclement conditions looming in the morning.
Averaging just over seven runs a game, the Dolphins tallied one run off eight hits. Winthrop would score six runs in the first two innings to start the game, and finish with three the remaining six frames.
"It's not a sprint, it's a marathon," said head coach Tim Montez. "It's a long season and we have to keep these guys doing what they know how to do and not try to do too much. We have good leadership on this team to help maintain our approach. We have to do a better job setting the tone with our pitching tomorrow and that starts with Jeff Tanner (who is slated to make his third start of the season, Sunday). We'll be fine and get this thing turned around."
Senior Dylan Dillard (1-for-1) marked the only run for the Fins driving his second home run of the season over the centerfield wall. He extends his extra-base hitting streak to five games, while senior Angelo Amendolare (1-for-4) extends his hot-hitting, a streak of six games, with a single in the first inning.
Junior Connor Marabell's (1-for-3) streak of games with an RBI is snapped as the nation's leading RBI getter run ends at nine games. He has reached base in 21-straight games dating back to last season. Senior Cameron Gibson tallied his third double of the year and has hits in 9-of-10 games this season.
Making his debut as a Dolphin, freshman Bryce Baker relieved two innings of work, setting down all six-batters faced with one strikeout. Justin Russell (1-2) is pegged with the loss, throwing six-innings, surrendering six earned.
Nate Ricci (1-for-2) and Casey Cribb (1-for-2) both coveted their first hits of 2015, while JJ Gould (1-for-4) and Parker Perez (1-for-3) knotted hits. Gould's third-consecutive game reaching base, while Perez has hits in 5-of-10 games this season.
