BEL AIR, Md., – The Jacksonville University baseball team gathered the double-header sweep on late Saturday into Sunday morning. The Dolphins improve to 11-11 on the season, 3-4 on the road, and will head home for a weekeday matchup against No. 7 UCF slated for viewing on ESPN3.
In Game 2, first pitch commenced at 10:35 p.m. ET with Jeff Tanner tallying the win, pitching four strong innings, recording 5 K's—his fourth struck at midnight. Gregory Shannahan pitched two innings, striking out three, while Nathan Disch notched his fourth save of the season.
"We made some big pitches tonight," said head coach Tim Montez. "Tanner did a great job in the first inning, limiting the damage. In my mind, we won that inning after that bases-loaded jam to only give up one run. I think that carried us and the momentum shifted in our favor. The staff is starting to come together and pitching with confidence and the freshman aren't freshman anymore and that's what we need heading into conference play."
Angelo Amendolare (2-for-3) tallied his third multi-hit performance in four games with two singles, one with an RBI in the second frame. Seth Dewitt (1-for-2) recorded his first double of 2015 and would later score his first of two runs in the game, off an Alex Seifert (1-for-3) single in the third inning.
Jacksonviile returns home this evening after Game 3 was cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. UCF game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start at John Sessions Stadium.
