Dolphins Rally in Seventh But Fall at North Florida

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University's softball team rallied in the seventh inning in the exciting finale of the River City Rumble but couldn't succumb North Florida's four-run second inning, falling 4-2.

Taylor Rossman pitched a strong outing of 3.2 innings and allowed two hits with no runs. Emily Sanchez went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and run scored.

Setting up what became the Dolphins' first run of the game, Sanchez (single) and Ashley Simon (fielder's choice) reached third and second base, respectively, after an Osprey wild pitch. Charli Bradshaw drove home the run with a sacrifice fly to left center.

Scoring continued in the home half of the second as UNF notched an RBI-single as well as a three-RBI home run to take a 4-1 edge.

Rossman entered the game in the bottom of the third and was charged with recording the final two outs. The Ospreys loaded the bases but Rossman left the frame with zero damage, recording an infield fly and strike out.

Victoria Brown nearly tallied a solo shot in the fifth before it was caught at the wall by the right fielder and in the sixth, Brooke Smith was inches away from a home run but it fell for a stand-up double. Jacksonville would load the bases in the stanza, unfortunately, walking away empty handed.

In true River City Rumble fashion, JU left all it had on the field with a fight to the very end. Loading the bases for the second straight inning, this time, Sanchez delivered the two-out RBI-single up the middle to cut the Osprey advantage to 4-2. The rally ended on a valiant effort - a fly out near the wall of center field.

After the weekend's results, the Dolphins fall to 23-25 overall and 5-10 in the Atlantic Sun.

Jacksonville begins its final appearance at home Tuesday, April 28 with a three-game set with Stetson. First pitch of day one's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
