Dolphins Earn Spot in A-Sun Championship Game With Semifinal Victory

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville continued its Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Championship unbeaten run with a semifinal victory over Furman on Friday. The Dolphins won 21-7 to advance to the Championship Final on Sunday. They await the winner of today's second semifinal between Old Dominion and Detroit.

In an all-around team effort, the Dolphins handed out 17 assists on the day for a NCAA single game high this season as well as a school and A-Sun Championship record. Danielle Della Rocca led the offense scoring five goals while adding four assists. Her nine total points are a A-Sun Championship single game record and equal her own school mark set earlier this year at Presbyterian.

A total of 10 players scored in the game for Jacksonville with Holly Ventimiglia and Ashtyn Hiron adding four each.

The first half began with Furman controlling the opening draw and immediately converting as Meg Lingo scored just 15 seconds into the contest. Jacksonville responded eight minutes later with Della Rocca's first score at the 21:46 mark. That goal started a 4-0 scoring run that was capped by Abby Remenapp's eighth goal of the season to give the Dolphins a 4-1 lead midway through the period.

After Furman scored to cut the deficit to 4-2, the Dolphins took control of the game for good with a 5-0 spurt that included two goals each from Ventimiglia and Hiron. The run would give Jacksonville a 9-2 advantage at the half.

The trend continued into the second half as Della Rocca scored two quick goals in the first three minutes and assisted on another scored by Jess Worcester.

Britt Douglass got Furman back on the board with two goals in quick succession, but once again the Dolphins responded by scoring the next four goals to build the lead back to 16-4.

Jacksonville moves on to play in Sunday's final where the Dolphins will look for their third-straight A-Sun Championship and berth to the NCAA Tournament. The final will begin at 1 p.m. and will be live on ESPN3.
