Game 2 Live Stats

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY. Four home runs and a sixth win by Michael Baumann (6-1) highlighted the routing by the Jacksonville University baseball team as it opened its fifth conference series at Northern Kentucky, taking charge of the Norse in an 11-2 victory on Friday afternoon.

The Dolphins (20-24; 6-7 A-Sun) scored 11 runs on 13 hits and left just three runners on base as the lineup combined for 10 RBI with Connor Marabell (3-for-4) and Parker Perez (2-for-5) leading the way with a trio each and whom blasted two of the four home runs. Angelo Amendolare (2-for-4) began the aerial assault with his second home run of the season, while Cameron Gibson (2-for-4) launched his second of the season.

Claiming his sixth win of the season, the Dolphins have its first to six wins this season and first since senior Justin Russell claimed the same amount of tallies in 2014. Baumann ran into a high-quantity pitch inning in the second with 30, but countered in the third with five pitches to set the Norse down in order and it was cruise control for the Minnesota-native from there.

"We needed a boost from big Mike (Baumann) and he answered back extremely well from last Friday," said head coach Tim Montez of his ace. "The guys were ready to play; we executed, swung the bats well and played solid defense led by Chris Lehane. We cannot relax and need to attack the next two days with the same focus and determination."

The five strikeouts in the game marked the 10th time this season Baumann has struck out five or more batters and the sixth shutout appearance of the season. Marabell's three-RBI game was the fifth time the Jacksonville native recorded three or more RBI for 42 on the season, and deposited his fifth home run of the season.

Making his second start of the season and in his ninth at bat, Lehane (1-for-2) tallied his first-career extra-base hit with a triple in the third inning. He also executed a sacrifice bunt that advanced Sam Armstrong (1-for-2) en route to a two-run inning in the fifth.

Amendolare continued his white-hot hitting, launching his 21st game with a multi-hit effort, while driving in his sixth RBI the last five games, while Gibson's two-hit afternoon marked the 16th time the senior has had multi-hits this season and plated two runs for his team-high 38th.

Perez deployed his first-career home run as a Dolphin and the three-RBI was the third such time the Seminole State transfer accomplished in two years at JU.

Carrying the workload in relief, Ryan Quintero would pitch a no earned run seventh inning with a strikeout, Shane Wise pitched the eighth giving up one earned and Andrew Ciocia finished the ninth with a one-two-three inning striking out one.

Spencer Stockton (3-2) is slated to start in Game 2 as the A-Sun conference series continues tomorrow with Jacksonville able to clinch their second series win at 3 p.m. first pitch.
