Gold River, Calif. – NCAA Championship racing continued on Lake Natoma at the Nimbus Flat State Park where the Jacksonville University women's rowing program saw action in Saturday's semifinals.
With their respective finishes, all three boats advanced to Sunday's D Finals. Jacksonville's varsity four will kick off racing at 11:30 a.m. in competition against Massachusetts, Northeastern and Central Florida. The second varsity eights compete at 11:50 a.m. and will be followed by the varsity eights at 12:10 p.m.
Lauren Whetzel and the Dolphin varsity eight returned to the water to cross the finish line with a 7:15.554 mark. Wisconsin, Yale, Notre Dame and Northeastern concluded the race in respective order with the Badgers' top time setting the standard in 6:37.559.
Three of the five boats in the second varsity eight wrapped the semi in under seven minutes. Racing in the lane above Jacksonville was a fellow Sunshine State crew, Central Florida. At the midway point, nine seconds separated the fourth place Knights from fifth place JU. In the final 1000 meters, UCF gained space to finish with a time of 7:12.031. The Dolphins came in at 7:34.310.
JU's four, coxed by Monica Hakun, concluded the program's day in a 1 p.m. race. It was a tough outing for the crew as it faced a large separation in the first 500 meters. In the end, it sounded the horns in 8:36.349.
