Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – Despite Wednesday's defeat, the Jacksonville University softball team will live to play on in another game in the Atlantic Sun Softball Championship. The River City Rumble momentarily left the boundaries of the First Coast as the Dolphins faced North Florida at the FGCU Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. where it fell, 12-1.
The Ospreys jumped on Victoria Brown's third pitch to single down the left field line, later scoring on a one bagger up the middle. With their leadoff hitter again reaching base in the second, UNF went on to stretch their advantage to 4-0 after an illegal pitch and throwing error plated the next two runners and an RBI-single brought home another.
The intercity rival took 12 unanswered runs with them into final frame, highlighted by a six-run third inning, until Danielle Baker slapped a two-out RBI-double up the middle to score Brooke Hardy in the fifth.
For JU, entering the tournament blazing hot with a .410 average on 66 hits in the last two series combined, uncharacteristic struggles at the plate wouldn't allow the team to gain momentum. The Ospreys outhit the Fins 14-to-4 and Kaylie Wallace struck out nine Dolphins on the day.
Jacksonville continues tournament action Thursday, May 7 at 3 p.m. versus Kennesaw State.
