Reddick's Record Day Lifts Dolphins Over Nicholls State

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Sherranda Reddick has scored in double-figures all five contests this season, and in Friday's 76-71 victory over Nicholls State she had an extra flare.

Behind 33 points and eight three-pointers, Reddick broke the Dolphins' program record for most points in a single game and tied the mark for most three-pointers made.

Previously holding those records were Ashley Williams, the Dolphins' all-time leading scorer, with 32 points against Charleston Southern (November, 2006) and Lexie Richards with eight three-pointers against Central Florida (February, 2000), respectively.

"[Williams] was first," said Reddick. "There is major respect there. I'm happy to come behind her and do great things, but we'll go back-and-forth about that. We have a great relationship.

"I have the same approach to every game. I just try to attack, but it was a good feel tonight. I was in the zone."

Down 31-30 at halftime, Jacksonville outscored the Colonels, 22-16, in the third quarter and never relinquished the lead or allowed the visitors more than two consecutive baskets in the final quarter. Fourteen of Reddick's point were captured in the third, including three consecutive three-pointers to start the frame.

The contest featured six ties and nine lead changes.

"Sherranda needs no motivation," said Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. "She has personal and team goals that she wants to achieve, and we see it every day. She's just being rewarded for the work she put in."

The Dolphins used a 10-0 run to erase an early 8-0 deficit, and held the Colonels scoreless for 4:29 in the opening quarter before a pair of made free throws down the stretch gave the visitors a 17-15 advantage.

Nicholls State opened the second quarter with a five-point lead, but Jacksonville's persistency paid off as it chipped away and took a 22-20 lead with 7:02 to go before halftime.

Christin Mercer added 10 points and four rebounds for the Dolphins.

The Dolphins close out the JU Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow, Saturday, November 26, against South Alabama at Historic Swisher Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
