Box Score MIAMI – Jacksonville University women's basketball (6-2) continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon in a 71-56 success over Florida International at Lime Court in FIU Arena. The Dolphins shot a road-high 52.8 percent from the floor en route to their fourth consecutive win.
Sherranda Reddick finished the contest with a game-high 18 points and Kayla Gordon trailed closely with 17. Kimberly Dawkins added seven rebounds and a career-high five steals.
"I saw a lot of positive things tonight," said Head Coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin. "This was a great team effort. We had multiple players score in double-figures, and for the most part, we defended very well."
Assisting the Dolphins to an unanswered scoring run, Jacksonville's post -- Gordon and Christin Mercer – worked their way to the basket to account for nine of the team's first 11 points.
Florida International recorded its first point on a split trip at the free-throw line midway through the quarter, and pulled within three, 15-12, with 7:26 on the clock in the second. Tianah Alvarado's nine points singlehandedly lifted the Panthers back into the game. The side even held a slight 18-17 advantage at the media timeout in the quarter until Reddick flexed her range.
Jacksonville's senior captain came out of the break with back-to-back three-pointers, and was fouled on her next attempt, making 2-of-3 at the line.
Similar to the game-opening run, JU concluded the first half with an 11-2 scoring stretch to enter the locker room up, 29-18.
The Dolphins led by as much as 22 in the final quarter.
Forty-two of the team's points occurred in the paint and 14 were recorded off of turnovers.
Brandi Buie and Mercer also scored in double-figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Jacksonville returns to the friendly confines of Historic Swisher Gymnasium next week for contests against Johnson & Wales (Fla.) and Troy. Tuesday's outing versus JW will tip at 12 p.m.
