Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its second game of the River City Leadoff, Jacksonville University's softball team (1-1) dropped a 9-0 decision to Kansas Friday.
Andie Formby (1-0) tossed a five-inning gem and nearly had a no-hitter before pinch-hitter Jacqueline Hodskins singled up the middle with two outs in the top of the inning.
The Jayhawks struck first when Daniella Chavis slapped a two-out RBI single into right field to plate a run in the opening frame.
Pitcher Paige Curtis entered in relief in the second inning, and Kansas added another run on a fielder's choice.
Kansas struck for six in the fifth inning with two runs off of Curtis before Taylor Rossman reentered with the bases loaded and one out. She allowed one run to score on a wild pitch before surrendering a three-run homer.
Rossman (0-1) took the loss for the Dolphins with three earned runs off two hits in 1.2 innings. Curtis worked 3.1 innings with six earned runs on seven hits.
Jacksonville is back in action tomorrow when it hosts NC State at 5:30 p.m.
